BioFormed in October 2001, Alabaster Theatre is a unique progressive rock band playing original music taking influence from 90s alt-rock, 70s prog-rock, psychedelic rock, neo-classical, folk, indie and experimental bands. One critic cited the band to be like "Radiohead meets REM with splashes of Pink Floyd, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Cure, if they were pirates". The old Bar Bodega on Willis Street in Wellington hosted their first pub gig in July 2002 and now, four years down the track, after dozens of shows in New Zealand and Germany, Alabaster Theatre finally has a concrete line-up of members. 2006 saw the release of their 2nd EP "The Reign of the Oak" and a third release is on the way.
